Partial closure of Long Point campgrounds extended

High water on Lake Erie has extended the partial camping ban at Long Point Provincial Park. The Cottonwood campground in the older section of the park is back in business following a temporary closure over the Victoria Day holiday weekend. However, the Firefly, Monarch and Turtle Dunes campgrounds remain vulnerable to inflows of lake water due to winds and will be shut down again this weekend. At the park website, staff say the closure of these campgrounds will remain in effect till mid-June. If water levels subside, the Firefly, Monarch and Turtle Dunes campgrounds will re-open in time for the June 14 weekend.“Affected reservations will be contacted by the Ontario Parks reservation service,” Ontario Parks says in a social media posting. “Public safety will guide our decision on when to re-open these areas.”MSonnenberg@postmedia.com
