United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today appointed France’s Stéphane Dujarric de la Rivière to be his next spokesman, succeeding Fred Eckhard, who retires at the end of the month. Previously an associate spokesman, Mr. Dujarric worked for more than nine years for ABC News in various capacities in the network’s New York, London and Paris news bureaux. As an assignment editor and field producer for ABC, he travelled extensively in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.Mr. Dujarric is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. As an alumnus of the United Nations International School in New York, he served on its Board of Trustees for three years. The 39-year-old Mr. Dujarric was raised in Paris and New York.Also today, the Secretary-General appointed Marie Okabe as his Deputy Spokesman. Ms Okabe, a former associate spokesman, was a UPI news writer.
