There’s no denying that Jack White has an obsession with vinyl. His company Third Man Records is essentially built off of that obsession, as White continues to support talented musicians and preserve musical legacies through the creation of vinyl. His Third Man Records booth made history when it became the quickest performing-to-vinyl pressing ever, but it seems White is not content with keeping his vinyl on the ground. In a new video posted to Jack White’s Facebook page, the musician writes “July 30th, Third Man Records is going to make vinyl history again” in gold letters, set over a background of stars in outer space. From there, a gold vinyl twirls its way into the foreground, revealing its title: Carl Sagan’s “A Glorious Dawn,” an album released on Third Man Records in 2009.Carl Sagan was a noted astronomer, perhaps best known for his series Cosmos that was popular in the 1980’s, and recently revitalized with Neil deGrasse Tyson as host. Some of his spoken excerpts were selected and released on the “A Glorious Dawn” album posthumously. When you couple that with some older interviews, it seems highly likely that White is going to boldly go where no man has gone before, and try to play a vinyl record in space for the first time ever. In a 2012 conversation with astronaut Buzz Aldrin in Interview Magazine, White talks about a “secret project” to accomplish this first-ever feat. White says, “We want to launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player, and possibly that Carl Sagan record, and figure out a way to drop the needle with all that turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play.”Has White figured it out? I guess we’ll find out on July 30th. Watch the video below.
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — First of all check out the Bank of Commerce video above to get you rocking into the home opener. By the way that video was produced by Samson Ledesma, a Wellington High School graduate, who does pretty good work on like everything …••••Now the game. Wellington (0-1) opens at home against Goddard Eisenhower after losing at Augusta 25-14. In 2014, Wellington took down the Tigers 34-0 in what was arguably the Crusaders best and most complete game of the season. But things might not come as easily for our Dukes Friday night. Goddard Eisenhower is 1-0 after beating Andover 26-25, considered by many as a mild upset. The Tigers, slated in preseason coaches poll to finish fifth in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. II, beat a team that was picked to finish third and was ranked in the Class 5A preseason poll. The 26-25 victory came down to extra points. Eisenhower made one more than Andover. It was won late when Joseph Weibel rumbled in for a 3-yard touchdown run. Weibel, a Wichita Northwest transfer, ended the game with 138 yards on 30 carries. Mason Madzey is a dual threat quarterback and was 7 of 11 for 96 yards and a touchdown and ran for 90 yards on eight carries.March Marinelli is in his third year as coach of a school that has only been in existence for four years. The 2015 team has plenty of new faces from the one that finished 2-7 in 2014. A win in Wellington would be huge for a program that is still looking to make an imprint on the gridiron.Wellington comes into the contest 0-1 after leading for three quarters before seeing Augusta explode with two touchdowns in the final stanza. The Crusaders finished the game with 210 yards offense to Augusta’s 196.Wellington had five rushers Friday splitting carries. The Crusaders ran 13 of 17 plays on its two touchdown drives. The Crusaders had just 27 yards passing — 25 of those coming on a freakish pass play to Connor Burnett.Wellington-Goddard Eisenhower game at a glance:Home opener: Goddard Eisenhower (1-0) at Wellington (0-1), Friday at 7 p.m.Follow the game: Internet: Live twitter blogs on this site, Sumner Newscow. For their part, probation authorities told Hellerstein in court documents that Cohen was sent back to prison for refusing to sign a form that would have banned him from publishing the book or communicating with the media or public. The Bureau of Prisons has claimed that any assertion that the re-imprisonment of Cohen “was a retaliatory action is patently false.”Cohen was released to home confinement last Friday, after being at the prison since July 9.Sources say his book will offer details on the circumstances that led him to plead guilty to campaign finance charges and subsequently blame Trump for allegedly directing him to commit those crimes. The charges resulted from Cohen’s efforts to arrange payouts during the 2016 presidential race to keep porn actress Stormy Daniels and model Karen McDougal from making public claims of extramarital affairs with Trump. The president has repeatedly denied the affairs. In a written declaration, Cohen said that his book “will provide graphic and unflattering details about the President’s behavior behind closed doors.” The U.S. government on Thursday dropped its effort to silence President Trump’s former personal lawyer, saying it will no longer demand that Michael Cohen avoid speaking with the media in the weeks before his book about Trump is released. An agreement between the government’s lawyers and Cohen’s attorney, Danya Perry, lifting the media ban that was keeping Cohen from speaking publicly now awaits a federal judge’s signature.Cohen is now completing the last two years of a three-year prison sentence at home after pleading guilty to campaign finance charges and lying to Congress. He was temporarily released from prison last May due to fears about the coronavirus, and was returned there in June, after announcing that he planned to publish a book that is critical of the president.Additionally, Cohen stated in court papers that the book, titled, “Disloyal: The True Story of Michael Cohen, Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump,” will be released before the November election. The 53-year-old Cohen had sued federal prison officials and U.S. Attorney General William Barr, arguing that he was ordered back to prison simply because of the book. However, U.S. Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein last week ordered that Cohen be released, saying that the government had retaliated and violated his First Amendment rights.
